Our team visited South Africa

Alper Gençer and Çağrı Yoltar visited Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town between October 11-21, 2018 to gather more information on the South African welfare system in general, and the workings of the Child Support Grant in particular. They had meetings with the leading scholars of social policy and politics in South Africa, including Jimi Adesina, Leila Patel, Sophie Plagerson, Carin Runciman, Jeremy Seekings, Kathrine Hall, Paula Prodlock and Ben Scully with whom they had a chance to discuss the project team’s most recent research findings on the relationship between contentious politics, electoral competition, and Child Support Grant provision.
